Team history
Ohio Wesleyan University has offered athletic programs since 1875. At this time, football was the only sport that the school offered. In the 1880s, the school had the best amateur football team in the state and joined the Ohio Athletic Conference. Many years later, in 1983, they became one of nine schools in the North Coast Athletic Conference. The school also added men's and women's programs in lacrosse, golf, soccer, track and field and basketball along with several other sports.
Success in competition
Since 1983, this university has taken home over 20 regional and national trophies. It was also named one of the top 25 collegiate athletics programs in the nation by Sears Director's Cup. Ohio Wesleyan won the Division III title in women's soccer two times and the title in men's golf eleven times.
Mascot and team name
The school's teams adopted the name "Battling Bishops" in 1925. The school mascot was named one of the weirdest college mascots and is a character dressed in a red robe.
Ohio Wesleyan University's athletic teams have a long history of success. The Battling Bishops won national and regional competitions on many occasions.
